How we calculate the index
Each of the six components is scaled to 0–100 from official and scientific data sources. The score is a weighted average. Weights are fixed and public, shown next to each component.
The score is computed daily and approved by an editor. Any change of more than 10 points in a day comes with a written explanation. The Doomsday Clock is shown as context only; it changes once a year.
The index is an educational tool. It never replaces official warnings or instructions from emergency services.
